Flashback: 2009 SAG Awards Red Carpet

On the eve of the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2010, here is a look back at the standout dresses of 2009.

Kate Winslet in Narciso Rodriguez

Peachy cheeks directly contrast Kate’s sapphire blue dress, and, let’s face it: its all about the dress. The perfectly place seams fit like it was made for her. If you can tear your eyes away long enough to glance up to her face, you’ll notice Kate’s signature creamy skin.

Penélope Cruz in Azzedine Alaïa

Penelope is known for her romantic dress choices, so appearing in this streamlined Alaia both shocked and delighted critics. She kept her makeup modern to match: a nude lip & soft smoky eye. I just wish her hair got the modern memo.

Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli

The gorgeous deep plum hue of this gown comes with one caveat: it can drain the color from your skin faster than you can say “burgandy”. As I emphatically explain to bridesmaids, a dark violet dress demands color on the face. Amy Adams (fair-complected herself) nails it here with a berry color that stands up to the gown, without exactly matching.

Anne Hathaway in Azzaro

I adore seeing Anne in a red lip, which she often wears. But this Greek Goddess-inspired gown (a big trend) calls for a natural makeup look, which Anne obliged. I would have loved to see a bronze or gold palette to add a teeny bit more interest, but the gown is still fabulous.

Emily Blunt in Pamela Rolland

This shimmering silver gown would look right at home on today’s red carpet. The metallic trend has been around a few seasons, and doesn’t seem to be leaving us anytime soon. Emily represented another 2009 trend: her bold brows. Bravo!

January Jones in Andrew Gn

2009 was the year that “Mad Men” blew up, earning nominations and bringing home awards. In the midst of this, a new style star was born. January Jones stepped onto the red carpet in perhaps the years best LBD, and instantly became a fashion-lovers fave. I look forward to her red carpet choices for seasons to come.
